Hi I’m Rachael, welcome to A City Girl Outside!
In 2016 I left the UK and moved to Canada to work my very first Ski Season. I’d never skied or snowboarded in my life, but I took the plunge to work somewhere new, and learn new things. I took a few skiing lessons with my employee pass, ended up meeting my boyfriend (now fiance) and discovered my love of the outdoors.
British Columbia is one of the most beautiful places on earth I’ve visited. Coming from the big city of London I’d experienced very little of the great outdoors. Living here I skied for the first time, learned to snowmobile, hiked to mountain-top glacier lakes, camped for the first time and even found a love of fishing.
While I enjoy nights in with wine still, getting outside in BC is truly amazing. The wildlife alone is an attraction in itself. I’ve seen several black bears, over 30 bald eagles, and a pod of Orcas all on my doorstep.
In 2017 I exchanged the Canadian wilderness for the Happiest Place On Earth. I started my Disney Cultural Representative program in July 2017 and had one of the best years of my life. I got to spread pixie dust every day (yes it does exist!) I finished my year in the United States with 6 weeks of travel through several National Parks, and actually enjoyed camping!
Over the past 2 and a half years I’ve visited 10 US states (15 overall) 4 countries, 3 Canadian Provinces.
This blog isn’t just about getting outside, it’s about getting out of my house, my culture, my comfort zone. It’s about exploration and seeing things for the first time.
I’m now currently living back here in Canada. I’ve survived the Canadian winters and the summer in the desert. I’ve done things I never thought I’d do.
Travel has taught me so much already and it’s given me the opportunity to learn about myself and meet some of the best people.
People always say life begins at the end of your comfort zone, and I totally agree.
Hope you enjoy the blog, thanks for visiting!
