One of the things I loved when visiting Arches National Park is how easy it was to navigate the park. Most of the arches listed below are easy to access and require a short walk or hike.

If you’re planning a visit between April 3 and October 3, 2022, it’s essential to secure a Timed Entry Ticket. Fortunately, these tickets are available at no additional cost, with only a $2 service fee.

They are delicate and can collapse at any time, which is why it is so important to admire them from a safe distance and avoid touching or climbing on them. It is prohibited to climb or walk on top of any arches, as this can cause irreparable damage.

Timed Entry Requirements at Arches National Park

To manage visitation levels and ensure a quality experience for all visitors, Arches National Park has implemented a Timed Entry System during its peak season. This system is in place from April 3 to October 3 each year. If you’re planning to enter the park during these dates you must obtain a Timed Entry Ticket in advance.

Tickets are released on the first of the month, three months prior to the month of entry. For example, tickets for entry in July are available starting April 1. Each ticket allows one vehicle entry into the park on a specified date and time slot. While the tickets themselves are free, there is a $2 service fee per ticket to cover processing costs.

It’s essential to secure your Timed Entry Ticket early as they can run out quickly due to high demand. However, if you have a camping, backcountry, Fiery Furnace, or special use permit already, this will serve as your entry ticket. Likewise, visitors taking part in tours with approved companies do not require a separate ticket.

Keep in mind, to streamline your visit to Arches National Park and other national parks, consider acquiring an Annual National Park Pass. This pass covers entrance fees but does not substitute the requirement for a Timed Entry Ticket during the designated periods.

Best Arches In Arches National Park

With over 2,000 arches gracing the park’s expanse, you’re unlikely to experience them all in a single visit. Many of the arches reside in remote and inaccessible areas, while some require rigorous hikes or technical climbing to reach. The arches mentioned in this post are all easily accessible and easy to find!

Although Arches National Park boasts an impressive count of documented arches, don’t expect arches to dominate the entire 76,519-acre park. Amidst its vast expanse, you’ll find a diverse array of captivating rock formations.

While this post highlights some of the best arches below, be sure to keep an eye out for the many other geological wonders scattered throughout the park.

1. Delicate Arch

Delicate Arch is perhaps the most iconic and recognizable arch in the park. This huge freestanding arch stands 64 feet tall and spans an impressive 45 feet. It is located in the Devil’s Garden area and can be viewed from a viewpoint accessible via a short, moderate hike. For a closer view, you can also take the Delicate Arch Trail, which is three miles roundtrip and rated as strenuous.

2. Double Arch

Double Arch is one of the more unique arch formations in Arches National Park as it consists of two arches that share the same foundation. This makes it a popular spot to capture stunning photographs. It is located in the Windows Section and can be reached via a short, easy hike.

3. Landscape Arch

Landscape Arch holds the title of being the longest natural arch in North America, spanning an incredible 290 feet. It can be found along the Devils Garden Trail and is easily accessible via a moderate hike. Please note that viewing areas for this arch are limited to prevent damage from erosion.

4. North Window

The Windows Section is home to some of the most magnificent and impressive arch formations in the park.

Just north of Turret Arch is North Window, a massive arch that resembles a large rectangular window. This impressive structure stands at 90 feet (27 meters) tall and has an opening that spans 47 feet (14 meters). It can be reached via a short hike from the North Window/South Window Trailhead.

5. South Window

South Window is one of the best arches in Arches National Park, and stands at 100 feet (30 meters) tall and has an opening that spans 71 feet (22 meters). It can be easily reached via a short hike from the North Window/South Window Trailhead.

6. Turret Arch

Turret Arch is another impressive arch located in the Windows Section of the park. Its unique shape and position make it a popular photography spot, especially at sunrise when the light hits it just right. It can be reached via a short hike from the Turret Arch Trailhead.

7. Tower Arch

Although it requires a longer and more challenging hike to reach, Tower Arch is well worth the effort. This arch has a unique shape that resembles a medieval castle tower, making it stand out among the other arches in the park. It can be reached via a 3.4 mile roundtrip hike from the Klondike Bluffs Trailhead.

8. Partition Arch

Partition Arch is one of the lesser-known arches in Arches National Park, but its secluded location makes it a hidden gem. It can be found along the same trail as Landscape and Double O Arches and offers fantastic views of both arches. The hike to reach it is moderate but does require navigating up some steep slickrock.

9. Double O Arch

Not to be confused with Double Arch, Double O Arch is exactly what it sounds like! This arch features two round arches, one significantly smaller than the other. This arch can be found along the same trail as Landscape and Partition Arches, which has some steep sections and requires navigating over slickrock. You can see views of both arches from a distance and up close.

10. Private Arch

Private Arch offers a more secluded experience compared to some of the park’s better-known arches. The arch itself features a relatively small opening compared to others in the park, but its charm lies in its quaintness and peaceful surroundings. It can be reached in the Devils Garden area via a moderate hike that branches off the main trail leading to Landscape Arch.

11. Balanced Rock

Although not an arch, Balanced Rock is another iconic formation in Arches National Park. This impressive sight consists of a massive boulder balanced precariously on top of a narrow rock pedestal, creating a unique silhouette against the sky. It is easily accessible from a short, paved trail near the park’s entrance.

I was absolutely blown away by Arches National Park, it’s definitely one of my favourite places to visit in Utah. Even when you a driving or hiking through the park you will stumble upon SO many arches not mentioned in this article.
