Trius Winery Tour – One Of The Best Wineries In Niagara On The Lake

Niagara on the lake is a quaint little town nestled on the shores of Lake Ontario, a stones throw away from the magnificent Niagara Falls. I first visited the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake a year ago, my first time visiting Toronto and Niagara Falls.

It was a day trip from Prince Edward County – a long 2.5 hour drive just one way! As such I never had time to really check out any of the wineries. If you’re visiting from far away, consider staying the weekend in Niagara. This particular area isn’t cheap but it’s totally possible to visit Niagara Falls on a budget and plenty more wineries to see!

Last month I found myself back in Ontario – for my wedding! I’m not a fan of traditional hen/bacherlorette parties, and I knew I’d like to spend a day wine tasting in the Niagara region instead. Niagara is one of Canada’s largest wine regions and with vineyards in every direction it’s hard to choose just one. I discovered a new tour online and spent a day wine tasting at what I can only describe as Canada’s most Instagrammable wine tour.

Trius Winery

With several awards under their belt, Trius Winery is one of the top wineries in Niagara on the Lake. This year, Trius Winery introduced a new immersive wine tasting tour, complete with beautifully Instagrammable installations. The tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and is $35 CAD per person.

Instagram and wine – What’s not to love?

After arriving at the winery and signing in for your tour – each person will be given an individual glass to keep throughout the tour – these are free to take home with you and feature cute motifs. Mine said “Add a little sparkle” it fits me perfectly!

Rosé All Day

There are several stops on the tour – the first is the Rose Lounge. Here you’ll get to sample the Trius Rose, with flavours of currant, red berry and watermelon. This perfectly pink wine went down well with everyone on the tour. This covered open lounge space overlooks the vineyard, while the ceiling is covered in draping flowers. The Rose Wall is sure to fulfil those Instagram dreams.

Aroma Station

Next up on our tour, we were taken to the wine cellar. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by a cute bubbly light show. Heading down into the cellar we reached the Aroma Station. Here is where you’ll get to test your sense of smell. Each station features a different smell, and you’ll have to guess each one before revealing the answer. Our tour guide explained most people could only guess 2/3 out of 5. We were then introduced to the Trius Brut and the process that this particular wine goes through in order to be classified as Brut. During this section of the tour our guide Kevin demonstrated sabering a champagne bottle – a tradition that started with Napoleon.

Cabernet All The Way

The iconic Trius Red was the next wine on the list. This particular wine was the first Canadian wine to win the award for best red honours at the International Wine & Spirits competition. The Trius Red is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Always Room For More Bubbles

The grand finale of our tour was the Sparkling House – the inside is a pink lovers dream. We ended our tour sampling a sparkling rosé with a touch of sweetness added – cotton candy! There are several photo opportunities including the bubble bath, the huge champagne cork seats and the champagne swing! A hidden treasure is a small mirrored room accessible via a hidden door, complete with a touch of sparkle!

After the tour is over you are free to wander the vineyards, check out the Brut Bar or the on-site restaurant.
